In addition to carrying out paper-based transport related questionnaires, Forecasting and Analytical Services is now able to provide online questionnaires.

Recent examples include a Rights of Way consultation for Trafford council, alongside a traditional paper-based questionnaire, and a Travel to Work survey for Bury MBC staff. The latter is an online only questionnaire.

Advantages of online questionnaires include:

• reduced data-processing costs - the data is written directly a database
• the ability to track responses - how many people have completed the questionnaire today?
• branching - displaying different questions depending on answers given to previous questions
• data validation - data can be validated before it is accepted. For example, checking a postcode is in the correct format.
